I hate biogs and press releases in equal measure, but this one actually feels okay:  http://t.co/zMk2XLOD.

I’m delighted to be opening for Ed Sheeran at Shepherds Bush Empire on Oct 3. Ed’s career is flying at the moment.

Myself and Ed’s paths first crossed in the Empire about 5 years ago, so it’s nice to be back.

Also on the bill is me old buddy Luke Concannon. Should be magic.

Here’s Ed doing his thing:

A few months back I was asked to contribute a short piece on the theme of ‘Possibilities’ to celebrate the Dalai Lama’s visit to Dublin. The brochure has just arrived in the post – see below.

I’m delighted to be published alongside Michael D Higgins, a man for whom I have much respect. You can also read the piece here.

In other news, here are some nice reviews of the recent London show.

Finally, I’ve just started work on an acoustic EP which I’m hoping to release in Sep. More on this to come soon.

I’m delighted to be playing The Green Note in Camden Town on July 7th. It’s one of my favourite venues in London, serving beautiful veggie food in a lovely setting. Can’t wait. It’s small, so advance booking is required.

Details and booking here: http://goo.gl/UdCo9.

I’m also playing a Garden Gig just outside London chez-the lovely Sam Edler on June 11th. Will keep you posted on that one.

This just arrived, and will be put to good use at the London show!

I’m 31. I spent most of my teens and twenties playing music in all kinds of places, from dingy open-mics to huge festivals.

By 2008 I was tired. I’d released two albums and two EPs on my own label, had been self-managed (with help and support from great people), and had blindly given everything to ‘the music’ for ten years.

In mid-2008 I pulled some shows and went in to musical hiding. Other areas of my life blossomed – I married my best friend, discovered the magic of running, and rediscovered my heritage through work at The London Irish Centre.

Through 2009-2010 I continued to write. I also spent a lot of time on the folk club scene in London, where I witnessed masters of story-telling and authenticity. I also ran a huge number of shows for other artists, and got to see things from the non-performer side of the table.

In late 2010 I decided to record a number of songs that I’d been working on. I planned to keep it simple – record at home and release online. Feedback has been great, but something was missing.

No matter how happy I was with the recordings, or how much people seemed to like them, the process was/is not complete. The buzz, the connection, the vibe, whatever you want to call it, it’s the magic that (for me) only comes when you’re playing live to a roomful of people.

It’s that magic that first brought me to the stage and it’s that same magic that is drawing back. I played my first proper set in three years a few weeks back, and the switch is flicked.

I can’t wait to bring my new set (currently under construction) to your eyes and ears.

Hi all,

I have pledged, to myself and to those who like my music, to release a new track every month in 2011.

This is the first of them – ‘What Kind Of Country Are We Living In?’

The track was written in late Dec 2010, in response to the incompetence, greed, and stupidity of some of our elected representatives.

I won’t ask for a fixed price for this one. Pay whatever you like for the track, or take if for free.

I will ask you to share it to your friends by email, on Twitter/Facebook etc, and in any other way that you choose. Your personal recommendation to your friends is the most powerful way to support my music-making.

A little homemade video for y’all.

What kind of country are we living in?
Some days I can’t believe what’s happening.
It spins my head and it breaks our angry hearts.

What kind of country will we leave behind?
What kind of country will our children find?
It spins my head and it breaks our angry hearts.

Are you really gonna take it take it?
Are ya really gonna, are you really gonna take it? x2

What kind of country are we living in?
When all the anger must remain within?
It spins my head and it breaks our angry hearts.

What kind of country puts its people last?
What kind of country travels business class?
It spins my head and it breaks our angry hearts.

Are you really gonna take it take it?
Are ya really gonna, are you really gonna take it? x2

What kind of country hides in history?
What kind of country lies in mystery?
It spins my head and it breaks our angry hearts.

Are you really gonna take it take it?
Are ya really gonna, are you really gonna take it? x2

Why hello there friends,

Hope you’re well.

Although I’ve been keeping a low profile on the gigging front, I’ve been writing like a mofo. It’s now time to bring these songs from the notebook to some new ears.

Rather than go down the album path, I’ve decided to release one song per month through 2011, with the first ‘instalment’ hitting your hard disks next week.

Am I excited? Am I what?

Facebookers and Twitterers amongst you can follow this project at http://www.facebook.com/garydunnemusic or www.twitter.com/garydunne.

Looking forward to sending sounds and stories your way, and of course hearing how they hit you.
